As a Catholic school with Easter on the rise, my teacher and I decided to do this little craft in preparation. The picture have to make is based on the Bible Passage Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd” and there is a specific list of things the picture must include:
- A Sheepfold
- A Cross
- A Path Leading to the Cross
- At least 2 hills
- A Stream
- Green grass
- and Three Sheep
To make the activity a little more fun, I decided to incorporate a 3-D element of gluing real sand on the sheepfold and path and cotton balls for the sheep. The students also got googly eyes to put on one of the sheep to show that sheep represents them
I also taught the students a few new art techniques
- how to create "rolling hills"
- how to skew a path or river when it goes from one hill to the next
- how to slightly angle the sheepfold so it looks 3-dimensional
- how to show the path or river is going into the distance by making it smaller
- and how to create different shades of the same colour only using one crayon
- as a bonus, I also showed them how to make a bridge look 3-d with curved lines if they wanted to include the path crossing over the stream
All of my friends did a great job with their pictures, take a look:

And here is my lesson plan:
