With parent teacher interviews coming up quick, it is time to change our class’ bulletin board in the hallway. As our class has adopted the polar bear from the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), the bulletin board will be based around the polar bear, showcasing facts and activates the class has done about him.
Before I began, I took some time to prepare the layout using Photoshop. After deciding what I wanted the components to be, I created several lay outs and tweaked and combined them until I had this final draft:

The photos used in the image above are not the actual craft I used, these pictures were more just for a visual size representation.
The components are as follows:
Boarder"
Title: Save the Polar Bears
Real life photographs of polar bears
"Trends in Polar Bear Subpopulations" map by the World Wildlife Foundation
Three polar bears I planned to draw and cut out
19 letter size paper painted with purple and blue water colours by each individual student for the background
Scrabble board with related words
The six reasons why polar bears are endangered written by students
The students Polar bear fact booklets
I ended up not using the scrabble board because the words I wanted to use would not fit the way I wanted them to, so I used some interesting facts the students wrote instead.
For the large center drawing, I had the picture on a USB which I connected to a laptop and projector and traced onto banner paper. When this was done, I painted it with two coats of white paint, using off-white/grey tones for fur details and black for the eyes and noses, and cut them out.

For the background, the students used purple and blue water paints to create an ombre/line effect. I had it all laid out when I projected the picture onto the wall so I knew I needed exactly 19 pages, 11 purple, and 9 blue.

For how the students made the Polar bear faces, tissue paper ball crafts, and polar bear fact books, please see my blogs on those activities:
The fact booklets ended up going on the wall beside the board because it turns out I did not have enough room at the bottom of the board as I had thought.
The final step was to put everything together and get the facts and reasons why the polar bears are endangered written up by some students. Here is the final bulletin board:

Here is the only full shot I have of everything, unfortunately I took it before I had all the facts up and a few of the tissue paper bears were still being completed, but this can give you an idea of the full picture.
