Currently in my fourth year of Early Childhood Studies I am working my way to becoming a primary teacher.  My passion for helping others started when I was a child myself.    When I was 7 I decided I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up.  Naturally, as I grew I went through different phrases where I wanted to be things like a ballerina, a marine biologist, a massage therapist, an equine trainer and an interior designer, but I always fell back to teaching when the phrase wore off because I always loved helping other people.  When I was younger I would play "school" with my chalk board and teach my stuffed animals what I had learned that day in class.

Placements

Over the past four years I have been very fortunate to experience many different placements through my education.  In my second year I spent a semester in a pre-school classroom and in my third year I spent one semester in a toddler class and one semester in a grade 1 classroom.  This year I am once again working in a grade 1 classroom and I am very excited to learn with them.

Inspiration

I think the first time I truly realized I wanted to work with and help children was when I was working at an equine camp and one of the children could not get their horse to canter.  She was very down on herself and upset that everyone else in the class was able to get their horse to canter but she could  not (her horse was known for being lazy).  After talking with her for a little bit about horses and how to canter, she got to the front of the line, gave the horse a huge kick and he took off beautifully into canter.  When she got to the end of the line she had the biggest smile on her face and when I went up to her was very excited and proud about what she had accomplished.  I don't remember a time before that I felt so  proud of helping someone else.  For me, that was the moment I knew I wanted to help others understand and learn.
